Barbara A. Timmons, 91, of Midland, passed away on Jan. 28, 2012. The daughter of the late Gordon and Frances (Goheen) Avison was born Dec. 13, 1920, in Pittsburgh, Pa., and raised in Korea until 1938. Barbara graduated from High School in Pyeng York, North Korea and received a bachelor's degree in business management from the University of Illinois. On April 17, 1943, she married Bonnell (Tim) Timmons in Chicago, Ill. He preceded her in death on July 17, 2001.Barbara was a homemaker and her hobbies were gardening, knitting and playing bridge. She was also an avid Detroit Tigers fan. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, keeping them well supplied with her homemade knitted slippers. Barbara loved to share her memories of growing up with missionary parents in Korea. She will truly be missed by her family and friends.
Barbara is survived by her sons, Richard Timmons of Vermont, Bruce (Judy) Timmons of Midland, James (Patricia) Timmons of Jackson, Paul Timmons of Traverse City, and Patrick (Holly) Timmons of Ypsilanti; her daughters, Sharon Kobel of Bellaire and Mary Lou Timmons of Midland; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial liturgy will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with Father Peter Gaspeny Liturgent. The family will receive friends at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly, on Wednesday, from 4-6:30 p.m., at which time there will be a vigil service, and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Inurnment will take place at New Calvary Cemetery.
