Thomas of Brotherton, 1st Earl of Norfolk was born on 1 June 1300 at Brotherton, Yorkshire, North Riding, England.2 He was the son of Edward I 'Longshanks', King of England and Marguerite de France. He married, firstly, Alice Hayles, daughter of Sir Roger Hayles, between 1316 and 1320.2 He married, secondly, Mary de Braose, daughter of Peter de Braose and Agnes (?), circa 1328.3 He died circa August 1338.2 He was buried at Abbey of Bury St. Edmunds, Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, England.2
He was created 1st Earl of Norfolk [England] on 16 December 1312.2 He gained the title of 1st Earl Marshall of England.1
