Death
OBITUARYHAWARDEN, IOWA- SHIRLEY BORGES, 86, of Hawarden, Iowa died Friday, July 20, 2007 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden.
Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Hawarden Community Church with Rev. Doug Baker officiating. Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center, Iowa. Visitation will begin at noon Monday, with the family present at 6:30 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.
Shirley Borges was born September 21, 1920 at Rock Valley, Iowa, daughter of Gerb and Ada (Bellesfield) DeVries. Shirley married John Moerman on August 10, 1937 at Council Bluffs, Iowa. They lived in Michigan, Sioux Center and Sioux City before John died on September 28, 1964. Shirley moved to Artesia, California to take care of her mother Ada. Shirley met and later married Manuel Borges on September 20, 1967. After Manuel’s death in 1971, Shirley moved for a few years at Olympia, Washington where she drove the pilot car for a mobile home company and later moved to Rock Valley where she worked for Groschopp of Sioux Center. Shirley lived a few more years in Washington before retiring to Hawarden. She moved to Hillcrest Health Care Center on October 25, 2001. Shirley died Friday, July 20, 2007 at the age of 86, at Hillcrest in Hawarden.
Shirley is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Cornie Schelling of Hawarden; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Beverly DeVries of Des Moines, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 27 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, John Moerman and Manuel Borges; her parents, Gerb and Ada; two sons, James and Harold Lee Moerman; grandson, Lester James Moerman; great-grandson, Andrew Banks Leekley
