James Shipman, a well known citizen of Searcy County, who resided at Leslie for a number of years, was thrown from a wagon near Martin Box on the Pike Road, Monday, receiving injuries which caused his death a few hours later.
Mr. Shipman was riding in the wagon of John Beavers, and when the team was nearing the W J Harrison place, the team became scared at an approaching automobile, and shied to the side of the road. In attempting to get out of the wagon, Mr. Shipman's foot caught in some manner and he was thrown out on his head, receiving injuries as above stated.
Deceased was about 58 years of age, and was the father of Thomas Shipman of Horton Bend. The remains were taken to Leslie, where interment took place Tuesday.

1st wife - Martha Jane MELTON - born Apr 9, 1856 and died Aug 24, 1931 - She was taken to Arkansas State Mental Institution in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was taken to the institution in 1892 where she stayed for 39 years, until her death in 1931. Mental illness was grounds for an automatic divorce in those days, so they were divorced in 1892.
