Gersenda of Maine

Second daughter of the Earl of Maine , Eriberto I (as shown by Actus pontificum Cenomannis, chapter XXXII, Gesta Domini Arnaldi Episcopi in which, it is said that the husband of Gersenda, defined daughter of Eriberto ( filia Herberti ) did not govern Maine , but he passed it on to his son, Ugosotto , under the tutelage of Goffredo di Mayenne [1] ) and his wife, whose name and lineage is unknown.
Eribert I was the second son of the Count of Maine , Ugo III (as shown in document No. IV of the Cartulaire des abbayes de Saint-Pierre de la Couture et de Saint-Pierre de Solesmes , in which, together with his father, Ugo III ago a donation to the chapter of the abbey itself [2] ) and of his wife, whose name and lineage is unknown.

Biography
Gersenda was given in marriage to the count of Blois , Chartres , Châteaudun , Tours , Provins , Sancerre , Meaux and Troyes , for the marriage with Tebaldo III (as confirmed by the Actus pontificum Cenomannis, chap. XXXII , Gesta Domini Arnaldi Episcopi , cited above [1] ), son of the count of Blois , Chartres , Châteaudun , Tours , Provins , Reims , Meaux and Troyes , Odo II of Blois and Ermengarda d'Alvernia , daughter of the Count of Auvergne , William IV .
Not long after (before 1049 ), Gersenda, who had not given children to her husband [3] , was repudiated [1] .

Between 1049 and 1051 , Gersenda married, in second marriage, with the count of Lunigiana and marquis d'Este , Albertazzo II , as confirmed by the Actus pontificum Cenomannis, ch. XXXII, Gesta Domini Arnaldi Episcopi , cited above [1] , son of Alberto Azzo I margrave of Milan , the count of Luni , Tortona , Genoa and Milan and descendant of Oberto .

When his nephew, the Earl of Maine , Eribert II died in 1062 , without heirs, before the Duke of Normandy , William the Bastard , according to the agreements made with Eribert II (according to the monk and medieval historian , Orderico Vitale , William the Bastard entered into an engagement contract between his son (a few years old), Roberto (ca. 1051 - 1134 ), and Margherita, the sister of Eriberto II , with the clause that, at the death of Eriberto II, without heirs, the future son-in-law, Robert would inherit the county [4] ), take possession of the county, on behalf of Margaret of Maine and his fiancé, William's son, Robert [5] (ca. 1051 - 1134 ), the nobles of the county of Maine , elected counts of Maine, her sister, Biota and her husband, Gualtiero I [6] († ca. 1064 ), count of Vexin and Amiens , who asked for the protection of the new count of Anjou , Embossed III the Bearded .
