James (Jim) Edward Welsh
, 67, Hominy, OK passed away on February 18, 2016 at 9:30 am at Jane Phillips Hospital in Bartlesville, OK surrounded by his family. He is best remembered as a loving husband, father, Papa, and ‘Poopa’.

Jim was born in Girard, KS on April 27, 1948, to James Anthony Welsh and Frances Katherine Swenehart Welsh.

He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed.

Jim enlisted in the US Marine Corps upon graduating from Girard High School in 1967.

He served his country in Vietnam as a bulk fuel specialist until he was Honorably discharged in May of 1969. He received a Vietnam Service, Vietnam Campaign, Good Conduct, and National Defense Service medals.

He is a lifetime member of the George C Brown American Legion Post 26 in Girard, KS.

He worked as a salesman when he left the USMC and continued in that profession upon moving to Hominy OK in 1984.

He and his wife Joyce, purchased the oilfield supply business that brought them to OK and what is now known as Sooner Oilfield & Industrial Supply Inc, Hominy OK.

Jim was a civic leader of Hominy as a member of the Hominy City Council as well as Vice Mayor.

His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and playing cards and slot machines at local casinos. He and Joyce enjoyed the cabin at Hominy Lake for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents James A Welsh and Frances K Welsh, and younger brother Mike Welsh.

Survivors include his wife Joyce (Azamber) Welsh of the home, daughter Pamela (Welsh) Kidder & husband Michael of Piedmont, OK. Two step-sons, Randy Weber & wife Judy of Olathe, KS, Eddie Weber & wife Lora of Cherokee, KS and one step-daughter Lisa (Weber) Ducker & husband Steve of Hominy, OK.

In addition, he is survived by five granddaughters; Kati Crawford & husband Drew, Emily Baldwin & husband Scott, Shanna Harris & husband Wyatt, Kalyn Parsons & husband Nik, & Khristina Kidder, and five grandsons; Christopher Ducker & wife Jessica, Tony Weber & wife Shelby, Mitchell Weber, Joshua Kidder, & Caleb Kidder. Also seven great-grandsons; Kyric James & Dredyn Crawford, Everett & Graham Ducker, William & Benjamin Baldwin, and Landry Parsons; and great-granddaughter Zoey Crawford expected in July 2016.

A Memorial Service was held Monday February 22, 2016 at 10:30 am at the Powell Funeral home in Hominy, OK.

He was laid to rest in Girard, KS at a later date.
