Hugh L was the next to youngest son of Wm Edward 1817 and Sarah Taylor Fountain Brinsfield abt 1822. He could not read or write and signed his documents with an X. He was a preacher, and his wife, Sarah Casey Fountain, would read the scripture for him. On the legal documents that I have found, he spelled his name as Hew L Fountain.
