William Riley Cooper

William Riley Cooper was born enroute from Wayne Co., TN, to Searcy Co., AR, and died in Muskogee Co. OK, in the Braggs/Ft. Gibson area.; he was the son of Samuel J. Cooper b. about 1834 in Wayne Co., TN, and died between May 1862-1864 of measles who had served as a private in Co. G (Sulphur Springs) 45th AR Milita from Nov 26th to Dec. 20, 1861, son of Samuel Cooper; and Nancy E. Thornton b. in Wayne Co. TN, who remarried after Samuel's death to W. A. Bradley.
His parents married soon after 1850 and in 1853 migrated to Searcy Co., AR, and settled on Bear Creek about 10 miles south of Marshall, AR, in close proximity to other members of the Cooper, Thornton, and Bradley families. William Riley Cooper had 3 brothers: Kendrick, Carroll Mordicia, and Samuel Miles Cooper.
William married on 20 Feb 1870 in Conway Co., AR, (1) Malinda Elvira Dawson b. 5 Apr 1848, d. 11 Apr 1891; they had the following children: Malinda Ellen who married Wm. Henry Martin; Carroll Allen who married Lona Smith (both buried at Citizens); Sally who married Lonzo Jorden; Laster who died in infancy (buried at Citizens); Rilla who married Jake Fredrick, Carl Plain and Crawford B. Taylor; Alex who married Mattie Edith(?); Ann who married John Neal, and Harrison (buried at Citizens) who married Mattie Wolfe and Eunice Garrison. William married Ruth Sheppard (no children).
