Thomas was a minor when his father died. His property was placed under the control of Thomas de Gretton until Thomas Foljame came of age. He proved to the escheator that he was of age on June 28, 1286. However, by the following year, in June 1287 he was in prison for wrongfully seizing a tenent in Eccleshall that belonged to his brother-in-law, Robert de Eccleshall.
