Katie Flatt's full name was Matilda Jane Bethalane Caroline Katiefish Valentine Elizabeth Flatt. Her daughter Elizabeth always said that her mother had seven names and she would recite them all to her children and grandchildren anytime anyone asked. No one seemed to know why she had so many names, but she named her daughter Elizabeth and Elizabeth named her youngest daughter Caroline.

Another descendent gives the following spelling of all of her names; Matilda Jane Bethalaine Caroline Katherine Katiefish Valentine Elizabeth. A note on one of the GenForum Web sites from a descendent claims that Katie's mother had a different time giving birth to her and she named her daughter after all of the midwives.

Katie was able to play the violin.
