CATHERINE RYDER

(3 Mar 1895 - 1952)

Katie Ryder is recalled as a woman of considerable beauty and much personal charm. During the 1920s, she worked in Winnipeg as a clerk for the Great Western Life Insurance Company. In January 1929, she received a bequest from her step-grandfather John Knight, her grandmother's second husband. By then she was already at the TB San in Ninette Manitoba. Recovered later in life, she married a dairy farmer from Coquitlam BC, where she lived her last years, the happy step-mother to her husband's two daughters. It was a grief stricken husband who phoned to report her death in 1952 at the age of 56. There were no children to her marriage.
