Turn back to p. 50 to Gilbert Kierstead of Isaiah & Elizabeth each of whom lived past 90 years) Gilbert barely reached 70 and his wife Amelia (Nickerson) Kierstead may have much younger. However she was mother of ten children. The first child, son, died of erysipolis aged 3. The third son succomed to Measles at 10 years. The next son died with Appendicitis at 17, followed soon by his brother, killed by Blood poison. Three little girls were stricken with Cholera before they were 5 years old. What must that Mother have suffered ? Only one son left to carry the family name. However he had five sons, one, at least, has six who have families.
