Arthur "Artie" Coates was a well-known figure in Havelock. In early years he worked on the Elgin to Havelock Railroad and then for the Canadian National Railway where he retired as a locomotive fireman. During World War I he served with the Royal Canadian Navy. [Thorne Book]
