Burial
Obituary: Robert "Bob" Charles Williams, 63, loving husband, father, grandfather and brother; went home to his Lord on Sunday, March 15, 2009, after an eight year battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2009, at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel in Ruston. Officiating the service will be Rev. Dale Oden. Interment will follow at Pine Grove cemetery in the Hilly Community under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Survived by his wife, Linda Broome Williams, his daughter; Gretchen Lea Williams, daughter-in-law, Raquel Williams, grandson, Ian Conner Williams, all of Orlando, Fla.; sister Roberta G. Williams, brother Roy T. Williams (Julia), nephew Matthew (Ashley) of New Iberia, niece Ashley of Portland, OR, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Derek, mother Vera Faulk Williams, father Robert E. Williams and brother Terry. Bob was born in San Diego, California on Sept. 30, 1945. The family moved to Wyoming and then Monroe, Wis. until the death of his father in 1952, when his mother moved the family to her home state of Louisiana. Bob, or "Butch" as he was sometimes called, graduated from New Iberia High School in 1963. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Louisiana State University where he met the love of his life, Linda Broome. The couple wed on December 28, 1968 and they were able to celebrate their 40th anniversary this past December. After living in Baton Rouge for 16 years, the family moved to Orlando, Fla. in 1985. Bob served as Director of Engineering (19 years) and Director of Regulatory Affairs (5 years) at Florida Municipal Power Agency. He was recently awarded a Resolution of Appreciation by FMPA's Board of Directors and Executive Committee for his years of dedicated service, leadership and counsels. Bob was an avid photographer, a skilled woodworker, a lover of chess, and a jazz aficionado. He was a diehard LSU fan. Bob attended First Presbyterian Church in downtown Orlando. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. A celebration of life will be held in Orlando at a later date.
