Lillian Alida Maraist
(19 Jun 1924 - 27 Jul 2005)
LAFAYETTE - A memorial service will be held at a later date for family and friends to celebrate the life of Lillian Hoffpauir, 82, the former Lillian Maraist, who died peacefully Wednesday, July 27, 2005, at her home in Lafayette. Lil was born in New Orleans June 19, 1924. During her early years she lived in St. Martinville, La. and has lived in Lafayette since 1945. She attended Mercy Catholic School in St. Martinville and St. Martinville High School. Lil later attended SLI. She was employed by the Louisiana Highway Department as executive secretary and retired after 30 years of service. Lil's life revolved around her family - especially her grandchildren. Her happiest times were those spent with her family. Grandma Lil's bedtime storybooks were never enough for her to read to her grandchildren. When they were young, Lil's grandchildren eagerly awaited the bedtime stories she created with adventures featuring them as participants with Buckaroo, an imaginary pony. She was never at a loss to pick up each new adventure exactly where the previous adventure had ended and the grandchildren looked forward to each new episode with great anticipation. When we think about Lil, among so many memories, we remember countless Sunday dinners when she cooked her wonderful, gourmet delights that the whole family enjoyed. Her recipes continue to be treasured by many. Lil loved visits from her friends. She made everyone who visited her home feel welcome. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include her husband, Eugene Hoffpauir; her sons, Edward P. Lyons, M.D. and William Hoffpauir; daughters-in-law, Donna Faulk Lyons and Jerelyn Gayle Bushnell; her grandchildren, Sheryl Lyons Hoerner Esquire and her husband, Daniel Hoerner Esquire, Daniel Lyons, Brandon Lyons, Brent Lyons and Lauren Lyons; and two great-grandchildren, William Hoerner and John Hoerner. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lillian Guirard Maraist and Daniel Maraist; and one brother, James "Jimmy" Maraist. Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Hoffpauir's name to either of the following charities, Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St., Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
