SULPHUR — Ross Morgan, 77, died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, in his residence.
He was a native of Indian Bayou and had lived in Sulphur for 50 years. He was a member of a pioneer family. He was valedictorian of the class of 1942 of Indian Bayou High School. He graduated from SLI with a degree in agriculture. He served his country in the Navy in World War II. He taught on-the-farm training after World War II. He retired from Cities Service as a lab technician after 31 years. He was a member of the Swinging Rebels Square Dance Club for 27 years. He was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, where he served as an usher, lector, greeter and on various committees. He was responsible for the initial planning of the church landscaping. He was well-known for his expertise as a gardener and shared his harvest with many.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Leona Landry Morgan of Sulphur; two daughters, Charlotte Smith of Sulphur and Dorothy Schwab of Coppell, Texas; two sons, Art Morgan of Evans, Ga., and Niel Morgan of Missouri City, Texas; 17 grandchildren, Sabrina, Tytia, Endrea, Wesley, Andrew, Patrick, Abigail, Zachary and Matthew Morgan, Katie, Ashleigh and Morgan Schwab, Corrie and Hannah Smith, Matthew and Kayla Hayes; and one great-grandson, Jacob McCowan.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, from Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Sulphur. The Rev. Hal Hutchinson will officiate. Burial will be in Indian Bayou Cemetery in Indian Bayou under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.
Visitation is 2-8 p.m. today in the funeral home and from 9 a.m. Saturday in the church. Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 1700 Maplewood Drive, Sulphur, LA 70663, the family said.
