Burial
Obiruary: The family of Pamela Rose Spell Abshire, 57, mourns the loss of their cherished loved one who went to her reward on Monday, Dec. 1, 2014, at her residence in Indian Bayou. A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 3, at the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley at 11 a.m. with Chaplain Francis Fontenot and Reverend Jimmy Broussard officiating. Burial will take place at Abshire’s Cemetery. Visitation was held at the funeral home Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. and will resume at 8 a.m. until service time on Wednesday. Born June 19, 1957, at the Acadia Hospital in Crowley, Pam is the daughter of Nina Rose Faulk Spell and the late Henry Buford “Boo” Spell of Crowley. Graduating as Crowley High School’s salutatorian and most intelligent in 1975, Pam attended USL studying computer science and business management. Then in 1977, she began her greatest journey with the love of her life, Jerry. She worked in the office supply business and loved being a stay at home mom while living in Crowley, Houma, Kaplan, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and the Indian Bayou community. Pam loved visiting and laughing with family and friends, flea market shopping and day-long drives exploring with Jerry, taking lots of pictures, researching the family tree, fishing and listening to good music while enjoying her Jerry’s Cajun cooking. She was an avid reader of many wonderful books and area newspapers (local libraries were a favorite spot); our family’s great storyteller (penned and shared many a tale at gatherings); an accomplished flutist; a classic movie buff and a dedicated birdwatcher. Smiling and spreading good cheer was her specialty. This message discovered by our local councilwoman epitomizes Pam’s positive attitude: “Enjoy your life, no matter how hard it may seem. When life gives you a thousand reasons to cry, show the world you have a million reasons to smile.” We will surely miss her beautiful contagious smile. Pam, our Bayou Rose, had one a kind sweet spirit and the heart of a brave warrior. She would say she lived a quiet, simple life, but to us it was positively inspiring and courageous. Throughout her on and off 24 year battle with cancer, she constantly encouraged others. Undoubtedly, many miraculous moments were experienced amidst what seemed insurmountable health struggles. Pam thanked God for his infinite amazing grace. She was the toughest person we’ve ever known. Those Pam urged to go on and be happy are her loving husband of 37 years, Jerry Paul Abshire; her son, Jeremy Paul Abshire (Amanda) of Crowley; one granddaughter, Kennedy Paige Abshire; her mother; two sisters, Darlene S. Petry and Mona S. Gill (Tim) of Crowley; one brother, Barry Spell of Crowley; niece, Danielle Robison and her fiancé Mike Blanchet of Meaux; her father- and mother-in-law, Pervis and Gladys Abshire of Rayne; brother-in-law, Shelton Abshire (Amy) of Abbeville; niece, Sheena; and numerous relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father; her son, Jacob William Abshire; and brother-in-law, Scott Petry. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Abshire, Barry Spell, Tim Gill and Jerry Foreman. Pam, our green-eyed lady, lovely lady, will be dearly missed by all. Her deep-rooted faith, unwavering hope and ever positive attitude were a testament to her love of life. We will strive to honor her legacy. The family sends heartfelt thanks to all the doctors, nurses, hospital staff, family and friends who have helped, cared, supported and prayed for Pam throughout the years. Special thanks and gratitude to Dr. Roden, Rachel, Louisiana Oncology’s nurses and staff and Family Choice Care Hospice for their compassion, support and wonderful care. Also sincere appreciation and thanks to the Dream Foundation, Hospice Nurse Stacy Dubois and Pam’s favorite Cajun music artist, Richard Lebouef for creating much joy, excitement and special memories for Pam and her family. May God bless each and every one of you. Condolences may be sent to the family by www.duhonfuneralhome.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Duhon Funeral Home of CrowleyEndnotes
