RAYNE - A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2005, in Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Rayne, La. with the Rev. Buddy Breaux officiating for Mr. Valson Stutes, 81, of Duson, La. Interment was held in St. Joseph No. 2 Cemetery in Rayne, La. under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne, La. Visitation for Mr. Stutes was observed from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. Monday, with a rosary recited at 7:30 p.m., and continued from 8 a.m. Tuesday morning until time of services. Mr. Stutes leaves to mourn his wife, Mary Jane Credeur Stutes, of Duson, La.; two sons, Bobby and his wife, Debbie Stutes, of Cameron, La. and Larry and his wife, Shirline Stutes, of Ridge, La.; three daughters, Sandra and her husband, Dr. Patrick Leonard, of Lafayette, La., Mary "Sis" and her husband, Kenneth Latour, of Cankton, La. and Pamela Stutes, of Duson; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Emma Richard, of Rayne. He was preceded in death by his father, David Joseph Stutes and his mother, Della Bearb Stutes. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 77 of Rayne, La. (Advertiser, June 19, 2005)
