SULPHUR — Funeral services for the Rev. J. M. McDonnold, 91, will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, in Maplewood First Baptist Church. The Revs. Charlie Watson and Sellers Acock will officiate. Burial will be in the Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home, 2051 E. Napoleon. Visitation is 1-8 p.m. today and 8-11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home, and from noon Monday in the church. Rev. McDonnold died at 11:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, in Grand Cove Nursing Home in Lake Charles. A native of Temple, Texas, he moved to Houston and became the assistant pastor of Southland Baptist Church. He then moved to Louisiana, where he served as assistant pastor of the Westlake First Baptist Church. In 1947, he was the missionary pastor of Westwood in Westlake and Emmanuel in Lake Charles. From Westlake, he served as pastor of the Maplewood First Baptist Church from 1948-1955. He then went to the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary of Fort Worth, Texas, and pastored the Webb Baptist Church. After graduating from the seminary, he was called to Elmore City Baptist Church in Oklahoma. In 1963, he went to Murray Street Baptist Church of Lake Charles, where he remained pastor until he retired in 1977. After his retirement, he was elected pastor emeritus of Maplewood First Baptist Church and was interim to many churches in the area. It was also after his retirement that he opened Mack's Refrigeration and pastored the Spanish Ministry through the Maplewood First Baptist Church. Rev. McDonnold was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Sulphur Masonic Lodge 424 F and of the Habibi Shrine Temple. He recently received a 50-year certificate from the Scottish Rite Body of Lake Charles. Survivors include two daughters, JoAnn Morgan and husband Charles D. of Lake Charles and Cora McMillen and husband Charles Lee McMillen of Sulphur; two brothers, John McDonnold of Temple and Charles McDonnold of Kaleen, Texas; nine grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Bessie Pickett McDonnold. Pallbearers will be grandsons Danny Hoffpauir, Joey McMillen and Timothy McMillen; great-grandsons Kyle Slaven, Steve Brown Jr. and Craig Slaven. Honorary pallbearers will be great-grandsons Andrew and Mathew McMillen, Billy Lueck, Bubba Hoffpauir and Desmond Lueck.
