NEW IBERIA - Memorial services for Jerry Lee Sundberg Sr., 71, will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 7, 2002, at Inter-Faith Fellowship.
Mr. Sundberg died Thursday, July 4, 2002, in Amelia Manor Nursing Home. Mr. Sundberg was a sergeant in the U.S. Marines and a veteran of the Korean War. At his request, his body was donated for medical education and research. He is survived by his wife, Marcelle D. Sundberg; a sister, Mary; one brother, Douglas; seven children and their spouses, Deborah (Robert) Daigle, Jerry (Frances) Jr., Michael (Linda) Sr., Vern (Donna), Rebecca (Adam) Hoffpauir, Danny (Diane) and Barry (Dottie); 31 grandchildren; 16 geat-grandchildren; and three stepchildren, Blaine DeJean, Ronnie DeJean and Laurie Cunningham and their children and grandchildren.
Mr. Sundberg was preceded in death by his loving wife, Emma Dell; his parents, Harles and Della Mae Houston; and his adoptive parents, Vernon and Birdie Sundberg. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity of choice in honor of Jerry L. LAFAYETTE - Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2002 at a service in Our Lady Of Wisdom Catholic Church, 501 E. St. Mary, for Jerry L. Sundberg Sr., 72, who died at 12:15 p.m. Thursday, July 4, 2002, at Amelia Manor Nursing Home in Lafayette. He donated his body to science.
Survivors include his devoted loving wife, Marcelle Daspit Sundberg; two daughters, Becky Hoffpauir and Debbie Daigle; one stepdaughter, Laurie Cunningham and her husband, Mark, of Akron, Ohio; five sons, Jerry Lee Jr., Michael, Danny, Barry and Vern Sundberg, their children and grandchildren; two stepsons, Blaine and his wife, Vicky, of Sunset, and Ronnie DeJean, of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Mary Weisenfels and her husband, Andrew; one brother, Douglas Sundberg and his wife, Gerry; nine step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; his special friend and little nephew, Brandon Comeaux, of Lafayette; one niece, Arlene Hall, of Crowley; one aunt, Agnes Shearer, of Picayune, Miss.
He was preceded in death by his former wife, Mrs. Joseph Dell Meche; his parents, Harliss Houston and his wife, the former Emma Bowerman; his adoptive parents, Vern and Birdie Sundberg; his in-laws, James Daspit and his wife, the former Fern Arceneaux; one step-grandson, Jadyn Trahan; his best friend, Cecil Wells; and his beloved dog, Muffin, a loyal companion.
Mr. Sundberg was a resident of Lafayette for the past 24 years. He was a veteran of military service having served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Korean War as a staff sergeant.
He retired with 10 years at Cabot Carbon Black Plant in Bayou Salle, 26 years with Security & Commonwealth Insurance in New Iberia and Lafayette, and five years with Phillips Wholesale.
Mr. Sundberg was a member of American Legion Post 69 and Veterans of Foreign Wars of Lafayette. He graduated from Hanson Memorial High School in Franklin and attended S.L.I. from 1948 until 1950.
