Obituary: John Henry McFillen, Jr., 95, of Conroe, TX, passed from this life to his present home with our Lord Jesus Christ at 4:00 PM on Saturday, July 2, 2011. Mr. McFillen was born May 11, 1916 in Fisher, LA to J.H. and Gertrude McFillen. He was a World War II Veteran having served his country in the U.S. Army. John was the oldest of 6 children. He loved the Lord and his life was a reflection of that love. He was a family man with a strong work ethic. In his early years he worked at a lumber mill and helped construct houses. John worked as an industrial warehouseman for most of his life and was a Teamster in the later years before his retirement. His sense of humor and love for life brought joy to his family and those around him. He was a longtime active member in the Nazarene Church where he served faithfully. Mr. McFillen is survived by his son, Daniel H. McFillen of Houston, TX; son-in-law, Leon Hesse of Sulphur, LA; brothers, Wyman Earl McFillen of Lafayette, LA and Herman McFillen and wife Katherine of Florida; three granddaughters, Mettie Hesse of Houston, TX, LaDora LaRegina and husband Christian of Euless, TX, and Malinda (Mindy) Armer and husband Kevin of Sulphur, LA; two great-grandchildren, Ainsley and Ian Armer; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers; Douglas & Gillis McFillen, and his sister; Ruby Whittaker; first wife of 12 years, Mettie Litton McFillen; his wife of 49 years, Emma Lissa McFillen; daughter, Beverly Hesse and granddaughter, Lynell Thierichen. His funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 7, 2011 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Brother Richard Beckham will officiate. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation Wednesday will be from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will continue Thursday from 8:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.Endnotes
