Leo Guimbellot

Funeral services for Leo Guimbellot, 86, will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, in Johnson Funeral Home, followed by a Masonic service. Dr. Mark Staggs will officiate. Burial will be in Higland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation is 6-10 p.m. Sunday, with an Eastern Star service at 7:30 p.m., and from 8 a.m. Monday. Mr. Guimbellot died at 6:35 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, in a local hospital. He was a native of Winnsboro and had lived in Lake Charles for 56 years. He graduated from Winnsboro High School. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corp in 1934 and was stationed at Olla. He served in the Army during World War II. He was an operator at Firestone Tire and Rubber Company for 34 1/2 years. He was a charter member of Boulevard Baptist Church.
He was a member of the Masonic Order. He was a member of Sulphur Blue Lodge 424, transferred to Lake Charles Blue Lodge in 1949 and became a charter member of Rudolph Kraus Blue Lodge 165 in 1950. He was a master in 1956. He served as illustrious master in 1957, high priest in 1958 and head of the commandery in 1962 for the York Rite Bodies. He received the K.Y.C.H. award in 1962. He was a shriner and member of the Habibi Temple.
He was a worthy patron Eastern Star Chapter 164 several times and was a worthy patron for the Justice Chapter 238 Order of the Eastern Star in 2000. He was a member of the Order of Amaranth and served as royal patron several times. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies and had parts in the 19th and 30th degrees. He received the Grand Council Merit Award in 1985. He was an officer in Knights Crusaders of the Cross. He was a member of the Red Cross of Constantine. Survivors include his wife, Gladys "Glad" Strean Guimbellot of Lake Charles; two sons, Edward Gene Guimbellot of Gig Harbor, Washington, and Leo Gerard Guimbellot of Lake Charles; one stepson, Jack Strean of Rosharon, Texas; one stepdaughter, Susan Marshall of Blanco, Texas; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to The Crippled Children's Hospital in Shreveport or Boulevard Baptist Church, 3007 Enterprise Blvd., Lake Charles, LA 70601, the family said.
