John FRANKLIN

The book, A History of Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania Vol II by Oscar Jewell Harvey & Ernest Gray Smith, states that he is John Sr. The following quote is from this volume, page 1227: "The John Franklin who was in Wyoming as early, at least, as June 1769, and who in 1776, '77 and '78 was a resident of Hanover Township, or District, was not John Franklin of Canaan -- as some local writers have stated -- but, was at the time of his coming here, an inhabitant of New York. (see Vol. I, page 512) John Franklin Sr. died at Canaan, August 20 1800.
