HUNTERSVILLE -- Mr. Gerald Boone Philpott died Friday, October 8, at Presbyterian Hospital. He was born in Durham, the son of the late J.J. Philpott and Nannie Bryant Philpott. He served in World War II as an M.P. in England and infantry in France and Germany, was wounded in Wurbury, Germany, and received a Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars. He was a member of Fuquay-Varina Masonic Lodge 258, was a 32 degree mason and member of Sudan Temple in New Bern, employed with the N.C. Highway Patrol for nine years, and retired from Great American Insurance Company as claims manager after 20 years of service. After his retirement, he worked for a period of time in claims for T.M. Mayfield Co.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, October 10, at 2:00 p.m. in the Almond, Raymer & McConnell Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Bobby Coats and Rev. Willie Parker officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 at Almond, Raymer & McConnell Funeral Home. Graveside services will be conducted on Monday, October 11, at 11:00 a.m. at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh.
Survivors are his wife of 30 years, Libby W. Philpott; two sons, J. Bryan Philpott, of Charlotte, and Anthony J. Philpott and wife, Candi, of Creedmoor; daughter, Ms. Lisa V. Haynes, of Creedmoor; sister Mrs. Louise P. Couch, of Durham; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Mrs. Inez P. Davis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Crippled Childrens Hospital, 950 West Faris Rd., Greenville, S.C. 29605; or to Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 E. 7th St., Charlotte, N.C. 28204.
