He was created Earl of Huckingham, 16 July 1377. He was created Duke
Gloucester 6 Aug 1365. In right of his wife, he was also Earl of Essex. He
was the leader of the opposition against the autocratic rule of Richard II.
After 10 years of fighting with his nephew, Richard II, he was murdered at
Calais, 8-9 Sep 1397 according to the confession of the murderers. Rot. Parl.
