BIOGRAPHY: The Luark Family is said to have started somewhere in the U .S. in th e early 1770s. Two brothers John and Joseph Llywarch, whos e origins were in Wal es, where said to have landed off the coast of N orth Carolina. Joseph stayed in NC, John sailed on to Delaware landin g somewhere near Wilmington. There he me t and possibly married Mar y Taylor. Before their son John was born, John Llywar ch was said to h ave set sail for some other port and was never heard from again . Mos t of this information comes from the journals of Michael and Patterso n Lu ark. These journals are on microfilm at the University of Washing ton. When Joh n was about 12 years of age he and his mother set off l ooking for Joseph Llywar ch, they never found him. The venture took t hem to North Carolina where it is said Mary had relatives. She later m arried a man by the name of Ricketts. Mary died in North Carolina abou t 1822. There were no children from this marriage. It should be note d some of John's children chose to spell their names Lewark. S pelling s also include Lewerk, and Lurk.
