Paul Loewen

The Loewen Family Genealogical Record and History Mr & Mrs. Paul Loewe n were very wealthy. They lived in a castle, in Prussia and had sever al servants. Mr. Loewen was blind. During a political upheaval and re volution in Prussia, Mr. and Mrs. Loewen were forced to flee for thei r lives, having been warned not to take any valuables with them. Pau l Loewen was a daring man, however, and hid some gold in their bread b asket. As they travelled, they were always fearful that the gold migh t be discovered and their punishment could be torture and death. Whe n they arrived in souther Russia, where they had been promised immunit y from military service and an opportunity to start farming, Mr. Loewe n buried the gold on a small knoll and prepared for a new beginning. I n the process of becoming re-established the secret burial place of th e gold was lost. There after the place became known as "Goldberg" (al so known as Loewen Village - Loewes Coota (colony) Their children wer e all born in the Goldberg or Sparrau area of southern Russia. (1DL)
