Durwood Edwin Lanier Sr

My dad, Durwood E. Lanier, Jr., says that his grandmother left the fam ily behind. My grandfather, Durwood E. Lanier, Sr ("Granddad" to me, " Son" to his parents and siblings)., also left home to live on his own . At that time, "Son's" dad, James Chelton Sr., worked in the oil fiel ds as a "tool pusher", and his son James Jr. left to work with him. Th is story was told to my by my father, Durwood E. Lanier, Jr. ("Buddy" ) on August 12, 2012. A 1930 Census confirms that Durwood Sr. lived wi th S.J. and Bessie Adams as a "roomer" when he was 17.

12/27/2012: Cathrine, the mother, left and there was Aunt Marguirite , Uncle James Chelton, Jr, Uncle Jack, and Daddy. James Sr. was a too l pusher and would be gone all the time while the kids went to school , in Humble. The mom left and ran off with another man and James Sr. s ent money to the kids. James Jr. went to work with his daddy. Margueri te got married, Jack got married, and Granddad was left at home alone . Granddad went to school and learned shorthand and how to type, and w ent to work for Jack Roach Ford. This information lines up with the ce nsus I (Rhoda) found with Granddad renting a room from soneone when h e was only 17.
"I remember one time my daddy having us stay in the car so he could vi sit someone. I think that was his daddy. That's all I remember about m y granddaddy." It lines up that it was probably Granddad visiting hi s father at that time, and my dad was only 3 or 4. That was probably r ight before Granddads´ dad passed away.
