De Lila “De” Ann Briles, 72, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Thursday, July 19, 2018, at the Griswold Care Center in Griswold, Iowa.
De was born on July 11, 1946, in Creston, Iowa, to Walter and Anna Mae (Pond) Proehl. She was raised in Lewis and attended school in both Lewis and Griswold. De and Melvin were united in marriage on March 15, 1963, and were married 55 years.
De was a member of the First Assembly of God church in Atlantic. She was a faithful servant to God and enjoyed sharing her faith with others. De and Melvin spent every weekend going to Omaha, Nebraska, to feed and clothe the homeless. Above all, De was a dedicated, loving, hands-on mother and grandmother to her three daughters, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
De is survived by her husband Melvin Briles; daughters, Shelly (Robert) Burrows, Stacy Mueller and Shaunna Briles; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jason) Dunn, James (Niqua) Burrows, Dylan Newell, Derek Mueller, Lane Mueller and Lyndi Mueller; great-grandchildren, Elle Schnakenberg, Jase Dunn, Vaelin Dunn, Zeke Hamilton and Sophie Burrows; sisters, Karen (Lenny) Theulen and Sharen Herrick; brother, Rick (Laura Belle) Proehl; numerous nieces and nephews.
De was preceded in death by her father, Walter F. Proehl, mother, Anna Mae and Edgar Lawrence; sisters, Shirlene South and Karon Jackson; in-laws, Raymond and Nellie Briles, Eugene and Betty Winger; brothers-in-law, Jerry Herrick and Robert L. Cook.
Friends and family are invited to gather and celebrate De’s life on Saturday, July 28, 2018, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa.
