Steven Mitchell Briles

A body was recovered Tuesday in Mill Creek in Aumsville.
Aumsville Police Department and Aumsville Rural Fire District responded to a report of a body submerged in the creek near S Fifth Street about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Lt. Richard Schmitz said.
Police identified Steven Briles, 53, of Aumsville, as the victim. Briles' family has been notified.
"There is no indication of foul play at this time. We believe it's accidental, but we're waiting for an autopsy to tell if it was hypothermia or a drowning," Schmitz said.
The body appeared to have been in the creek for about a day, Schmitz said.

Steve Briles, 53, of Aumsville, formerly of Dallas, died Dec. 13 in Aumsville.
He was born to Guy and Lori Briles in Salem.
Steve attended Cascade High School in Turner, where he played football, golf and was the drummer in the jazz band. He graduated in 1976.
Steve worked for Fisher Implement in Independence and then became a truck driver. He most recently worked for Allied Waste in Dallas and Albany.
Steve enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, riding quads, motorcycles and shooting.
Steve spent time volunteering as a firefighter and EMT for the Dallas Fire Department and also worked as a reserve police officer and reserve deputy sheriff in Polk County.
Survivors include his parents, Guy and Lori Briles; brother and sister, Kevin and Monica; children, Amber, Kaite, Zack and Liam; and one grandson.
Service was held at Bethel Baptist Church in Aumsville.
