Robert Milton Varner

Robert was the son of the Rev. Milton Varner and Dora Plummer Varner. He had two brothers, Roy and John Wesley Varner; and five sisters: Frances Cranford, Clara Mae Faircloth, Edna Scott, Ruby Ward, and Lillian "Cricket" Houck.

Captain Bob Varner served in World War II from Southern France to Northern Africa in the 207th Hospital Ship Complement. He was a past National V.F.W. chaplain and was North Carolina Chaplain of V.F.W. as well.

At the time of his death, he was pastor of Steelberry United Methodist Church. He had served four years at Highland Church in High Point immediately before going to Steelberry in 1966.

He was survived by his wife Elizabeth Hawfield Varner (now deceased); a daughter Mary McCrary,sons David Hawfield Varner and Robert M. Varner Jr. (now deceased).
