Jefferson Davis Barron

(28 Oct 1851 - 4 Sep 1918)

Jeff was named for Jefferson Davis by his father James Barron, in honor of the service which his brother Ezekiel Barron had in the Mexican War under Jefferson Davis. At an early age, he developed cataracts, the operation was butchered and he was almost totally blind from approximate 19 years of age. He owned a grocery store for many years in Ackerman, working the customers even with his disability.
