Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 23, 2002 St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, St. Rosa, for Aloys H. Blommel, 85, who died peacefully at the Melrose Area Hospital. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 4 - 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 8-10 a.m. at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be at 8 p.m. with rosary led by Holy Name Society, The Catholic Aid Society, and St. Rosa Lions Club at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Aloys Blommel was born June 30, 1917 in Millwood Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Joseph and Elizabeth (Koetter) Blommel. He married Madeline E. Dickhaus on September 4, 1940 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. They farmed in St. Rosa for 40 years, retired in St. Rosa, before moving to Melrose. Aloys was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, St. Rosa, Holy Name Society, Catholic Aid Society, Charter Member of St. Rosa Lions Club, served on Albany Telephone Board for 30 years and on the Millwood Township Board for many years. He enjoyed working at the Melrose Area High School and being around young people. Aloys enjoyed gardening and mailing birthday cards to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed reading and clipping newspaper articles.
Survivors include his wife, Madeline Blommel of Melrose; 11 children, Arnold "Arnie" Blommel (Mary Jane) of Freeport, Leroy Blommel (Marilynn) of Bloomington, Herb Blommel (Cindy) of Andover, Mary Kuznia (Gordy) of Lake Crystal, Ann Heidgerken (Bud) of Freeport, Daniel Blommel (Phyllis) of Avon, Joan Ellering (Mike) of Greenwald, Jim Blommel (Denise) of Sartell, Bill Blommel (Yvonne) of Willmar, Kenneth Blommel (Val) of Montevideo, Lisa Austing (Dale) of St. Rosa; sisters and brothers, Marie Eilers of Clear Lake, Maurus Blommel (Rita) of Freeport, Bernadine Pohlman (Ed) of Melrose, Joe Blommel (Fran) of Albany; 35 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sons, Gerald, David and Patrick Blommel and 1 brother, Alphonse Blommel.
