Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Greenwald, for Hedwig A. 'Hattie' Winter, 93, who died Tuesday at Pine Villa Care Center.Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home. Greenwald Christian Mothers will pray at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home in Melrose followed by parish prayers at 8:30.
Hedwig Winter was born in Oak Township, Stearns County, to John and Theresa (Hiltner) Roering. She married Joseph Winter on June 15, 1926, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, New Munich. The couple farmed near Greenwald until they retired and moved to Greenwald in 1963. She became a resident of Pine Villa Care Center in 1993. She was a member of Saint Andrew's Catholic Church and Greenwald Christian Mothers.
Survivors include her daughter and sons, Marilyn Mergen of Richmond, Edward of Greenwald, Norman of Loretto and Norbert of St. Louis Park; 20 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, March 6, 1989; son, Lewis; sisters and brothers, Mary Hoeper, Ositha Pederson, Ida Knoblock, Hilda, Irene Moreen, Bernadette Middendorf, Rita Ostendorf, Bernard, Alois and Clarence.
