The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2008, at the Sacred Heart Chapel, Saint Benedicts Monastery, St. Joseph, for Sister Frances (Henry) Borgerding, who died on October 16, 2008, at Saint Scholastica Convent. Burial will be in the monastery cemetery. Friends may call at Saint Scholastica Convent on Monday, October 20, from 1-6 p.m. or for a Vigil Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at Saint Benedicts Monastery. Visitation continues at 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral on Tuesday, October 21, at 4 p.m.
Sr. Frances was born on November 1, 1911, to John and Elizabeth (Kerfeld) Borgerding in Freeport, Minn. She attended Sacred Heart grade school in Freeport and Saint Benedicts High School in St. Joseph, Minn. She entered Saint Benedicts Monastery on September 3, 1928, was received into the novitiate on June 14, 1931, as Sister Henry. She made her first monastic profession on July 11, 1932, her perpetual profession on July 11, 1935. In 1968, she returned to her baptismal name, Frances. Sr. Frances earned a B.A. degree in elementary education from the College of Saint Benedict and a certificate from the Diocesan Teachers College in St. Paul, Minn., and attended St. Cloud State University. Her educational ministry was in elementary grades at Luxemburg; New Munich; St. Anthonys, St. John Cantius and St. Augustine in St. Cloud; and Sauk Rapids. In Albany, she was both teacher assistant and Sister Visitor at the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home for nine years. She moved to Saint Scholastica Convent in 1989; here she served the Sisters and also visited residents at Saint Benedicts Senior Community.
Sr. Frances is survived by her Benedictine community, one brother (William, OSB, Collegeville) and one sister (Helen Ehlert, Sauk Centre).
She was preceded in death by seven brothers (Infant Cyril, Cyril, Ambrose, Robert, Isadore, Paul and Roman) and two sisters (Marie Nienaber and Louise Brix).
