Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Roman H. Blommel, 68, who died Saturday at Melrose Area Hospital.Interment will be in the parish cemetery.Friends may call from 3:30 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Freeport. Freeport Senior Citizens will pray at 4 p.m., followed by parish prayers at 8 and St. Joseph's Society and Catholic Order of Foresters at 8:30 tonight at the church in Freeport.Arrangements were made by Patton-Schad Funeral Service, Melrose.
Roman Blommel was born in Millwood Township, Stearns County, to Henry and Adella (Kerfeld) Blommel. He married Elaine Butkowski on June 16, 1953, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, St. Rosa. He was born and raised on the family farm, which he farmed himself for 47 years, retiring in 1997. He was also an artificial breeder for 42 years. He had served on the board of directors of the Stearns Electric Association for 15 years. He was a member of St.Joseph's Society, Catholic Order of Foresters, Freeport Senior Citizens and Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he was an usher.
Survivors include his wife; children, Gwenn Peterson of Maple Grove, Kelly of St. Cloud, Kevin of Melrose, Keith and Glenn of Freeport, and Karl of Faribault; mother of Melrose; 12 grandchildren; sisters, Marcella Bergmann of Albany, Helen Hinnenkamp of Coon Rapids, Marlene Hinnenkamp of Melrose, Anne Stommes of Nine Mile Falls, Wash., and Alice Hoeschen of Freeport. He was preceded in death by his brother, Norbert.
