Services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose for Cyril Wessel, who died Wednesday at his home. Interment will be in Saint Paul's Cemetery, Sauk Centre Township, Stearns County. Friends may call from 3:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 8 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Saint Paul's Catholic Aid will pray at 7 p.m., followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Cyril Joseph Wessel was born May 28, 1918 in Melrose Township, Stearns County, to August and Mary (Austing) Wessel. He married Regina Primus on June 7, 1944 at Saint Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. The couple farmed east of Sauk Centre until retiring to Melrose in 1982. He was a member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, and Saint Paul's Catholic Aid in Sauk Centre.
Survivors include his wife, Regina Wessel of Melrose; children, Harold (Butch) Wessel and his wife, Betty of Sauk Centre, William Wessel and his wife, Wendy of Sauk Centre, Lorraine (Lori) Jackels and her husband, John of Melrose, Al Wessel and his wife, Lucy of Greenwald, Vern (Squirt) Wessel and his wife, Karin Wessel of Swanville, Larry Wessel of Saint Cloud, and Arlene Rohrer and her husband, Dirk of Shevlin, MN; brothers and sisters, Norbert Wessel and his wife, Mickey of Sauk Centre, Robert Wessel of Sauk Centre, Delbert Wessel of Sauk Centre, Gregor Wessel of Swanville, Bertha Theisen of Burtrum, Hildegard Primus and her husband, Alphonse of Bluffton; 23 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Bernice Wessel; sisters, Helen Jenc, Jeanette Derichs, and Valeria Wolter. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Saint Michael's Hospice in Sauk Centre.
