Services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at St. Benedict's Monastery Chapel for Sister Chrystette Primus, 85, who died Friday at St. Cloud Hospital. Burial will be in the monastery cemetery. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to time of services Tuesday at the monastery in St. Joseph.
Sister Chrystette Primus was born in Lastrup to Henry and Mary Magdalen (Athmann) Primus. She entered St. Benedict's Monastery on June 18, 1935, made her first profession of vows on July 11, 1937, and her perpetual profession on July 11, 1940. She graduated from the College of St. Benedict with a bachelor's degree in elementary education and later received her master's from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul. She taught and was a principal in elementary schools for more than 30 years in Minneapolis, St. Cloud, Perham and Sauk Rapids. She later became the administrator of Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany for 11 years. Following that she did part-time teaching and assisted in the library at Holy Family School in Albany. She moved to St. Benedict's in 1996 and worked at the reception desk in the Monastery.
Survivors include her brother and sisters, Ervin of Elk River, Alvina Dierkhising of Melrose, and Anna Zenzen of Elrosa. She also leaves behind her Benedictine community. She was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
