Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Saint Michael's Catholic Church for Anthony J. Welle, 84, who died Wednesday at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 3:30 to 9 p.m. Friday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose, and from 9:30 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the church in Spring Hill. Saint Michael's Men's Society and Catholic Aid Society will pray together at 7:30 Friday evening, followed by parish prayers at 8 and the St. Louis Council of the Knights of Columbus at 8:30 at the funeral home in Melrose.
Tony Welle was born in Lastrup to Tony and Appolonia (Schoenberg) Welle. He married Mildred Eibensteiner on Oct. 15, 1940, at Saint John's Catholic Church in Meire Grove. The couple farmed near Spring Hill. They moved to New Munich in 1970, where they owned and operated Tony's Bar until 1979, when they retired and moved back to Spring Hill. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, St. Michael's Men's Society, St. Michael's Catholic Aid Society, St. Louis Knights of Columbus in Paynesville and the Spring Hill Village Council.
Survivors include his children, Donna Nathe and Gene of Cold Spring, Lou Spanier and Tony of Spring Hill, and Sandi Feldewerd of New Munich; brother and sister, Edwin of Richmond and Loretta Rieland of Melrose; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, who died March 31, 1986; brothers and sisters, Joe, Clarence and Alvin, Lonie Kramer, Alma Jacobs, Della Loxtercamp, and Merena Stroeing; and one grandson.
