Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church for Melvin R. Janski, 72, 1103-20th St. S, who died Wednesday at St. Cloud Hospital from a heart attack.Entombment will be in Assumption Mausoleum, with full military honors provided by VFW Post 428.Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Daniel Funeral Home and one hour before services Saturday at the church in St. Cloud. Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 622 will meet at 6 tonight at the funeral home in St. Cloud followed by VFW Post 428 at 6:30, Holy Spirit parish prayers at 7 and Knights of Columbus Council 5548 at 8.
Melvin Janski was born in St. Cloud to Raymond and Frances (Klasen) Janski. His father died in 1929, and Walter Dombrovske became his stepfather. He was in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Jacquelyn M. Fritz on July 12, 1949, in St. Mary's Cathedral, St. Cloud. He graduated from St. Cloud State University in December 1949. He was employed in court services by the state of Minnesota, and later Stearns County, from 1958 until retiring in 1985 as director of court services for Stearns County. He was appointed court commissioner by Stearns County and provided marriage services to the Stearns County community. He was a member of VFW Post 428, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 622, Knights of Columbus Council 5548 and Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife; children, Pat Gallenberg and Mary Peterson of Rochester, and Joe of Gig Harbor, Wash.; four grandchildren; and stepsister, Alma Fuchs of St. Paul.He was preceded in death by his brother, Roger; and a grandson.Memorials are preferred.
