Jack Huffman, son of Elfrieda (Barthle) and Jack Huffman, was born at Groton, SD on May 25, 1929. At age 11, he moved to Colorado and returned to Groton a year later. Jack Married Betty Brown at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aberdeen, SD on September 2, 1948. They settled in Aberdeen where Jack was employed at Brown County Implement. In July 1957, they relocated to Selby where Jack worked as a salesman for Rabenberg Implement. He bought into the business and eventually became sole owner. In 1981, he sold the business and purchased the Carroll Peterhoff farm. As much as Jack liked the implement business, his heart was really into farming as he monitored crops day by day with frequent drives in the country. The farm is currently being operated by his son, Dave, and his grandson, Nate. He immensely enjoyed the several elk hunting trips he would take to Colorado with his son, grandson, son-in-law, and friends. After his retirement, he and Betty wintered in Arizona where he enjoyed many rounds of golf with family and friends. Jack was active in his community as he was a member and president of the Selby Jaycee’s, was chairman of the St. Anthony’s Church Building Committee when the new church was constructed in 1967, and in 1994 he was named Soil Conservationist of the Year by the SD Wildlife Federation. Some of the most joyful times in his life were the birth of his grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. Jack will be remembered as a hard worker, a successful businessman, farmer, and family man. He was deeply loved by his family and will be greatly missed.
Jack is survived by Betty, his wife of 65 years; one son Dave (Tanny) Huffman of Selby; two daughters-Jacki (Ollie) Marko of Milton, KY and Sherry (Steve) Martin of Pierre, SD; two brothers-Charles (Maryerlene) Huffman of Kelseyville, CA and Kenneth (Sylvia) Goodwin of Sedro Woolley, WA; two sisters-Treva (Will) Brown of Rupert, Idaho and Fern (Gordon) Stewart of Ludington, MI; six grandchildren Jeff Salverson, Beth Salverson, Callie (Larry) Iversen, Mitchell Martin, Nate (Shaina) Huffman, and Sarah (Jamey) Michalke; and six great grandchildren-Erin Salverson, Olivia, Grace, and Beckham Michalke, and Clara and Jack Huffman.
