Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Emily's Catholic Church for LaVerne 'Oscar'Harren, 71, formerly of Upsala, who died Monday at his home. Burial will be in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Camp Ripley. Friends may call from 4 to 8 tonight at Koop Funeral Home, Crosby. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home and one hour before services Thursday at the church.

LaVerne Harren was born in Upsala to Norbert and Frances (Lange) Harren. He married Arlene Helen Seurer on Jan. 23, 1954, in Minneapolis. He was a U.S. Army veteran in Germany with the military police force. He was a member of Myrin James American Legion 443 of Ironton and a member of St. Emily Catholic Church. He was also a member of International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 1 with 41 years of service.

Survivors include his wife; son and daughters, Doug of Emily, Sandy Dobmeier of Rice, Patty Solarz of Upsala and Kathy LaBorde of Crosby; brothers, LeRoy of Upsala, Leander of Minneapolis, the Rev. Robert of St. Cloud and William of Foreston; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph and Larry.
