Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church for Sylvester L. Sand Sr., 67, who died Saturday at Assumption Nursing Home of cancer. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Tuesday at Wenner Funeral Home, Richmond. Golden Smiles rosary will be at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home in Richmond followed by Catholic Order of Foresters at 7 and parish prayers at 8.
Sylvester Sand was born in New Munich to Herman and Elizabeth (Humbert) Sand. He married Theresia Schmitz on May 16, 1956, in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He farmed in the Richmond area until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of Catholic Order of Foresters and Independent Order of Foresters.
Survivors include his wife; children, Mary T. Gill and Pete of Cold Spring, Pat M. Westlund of Sauk Centre, Syl Jr. of Paynesville, Mark of Richmond, and Lisa Lichte of South Haven; brothers and sisters, Paul of Alexandria, Marie Thull of Greenwald, Rose Poepping of New Munich, Walter of New Munich, Edwin of Melrose, and Eileen Frieler of Annandale; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother. Memorials are preferred.
