Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Augustine Catholic Church, St. Cloud, for Leander A. Thull, 80, 721 Eighth Ave. S, who died Monday at St. Cloud Hospital.Burial will be in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, with full military honors provided by Sauk Rapids American Legion Post 254.Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Dingmann Family Funeral Home. Sauk Rapids American Legion Post 254 will pray at 6:30 tonight at the funeral home in Sauk Rapids followed by parish prayers at 7.
Leander Thull was born in Alberta, Canada, to Joseph and Elizabeth (Wensman) Thull. He lived in the St. Cloud and Sauk Rapids areas most of his life. He worked in the fiscal payroll office at St. Cloud VA Medical Center for 35 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church; a 50-plus-year member of Sauk Rapids American Legion Post 254, where he was past commander and past color guard member; past president of Metro Vets; past member of St. Cloud Fraternal Order of Eagles and Metro Lions; and a member of 40-8. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II.
Survivors include children, Richard of Spicer, Linda Ederhoff, Martha Bunde and Anette of St. Cloud, Joseph of Bothal, Wash., and Carol Braun of Richmond; sisters, Alvina Wichmann of Coon Rapids, Mary Gustafson of Aurora, Colo., and Erma Kile of Lodi, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.He also leaves behind longtime companion, Marie Mendel of Sauk Rapids.He was preceded in death by brothers and sister, Claude, Edward and Loretta.
