Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Rita M. Weniger, age 89 of St. Cloud who passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at the Assumption Home in Cold Spring. Reverend Alan Wielinski and Reverend Arthur Hoppe will officiate. Burial will be at the St. John the Baptist Parish Cemetery in Bluffton. Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and after 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the church. The Christian Women, Legion of Mary and St. Barbara Mission Group will pray at 4:30 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Rita was born on January 27, 1920 in Lake Henry, Minnesota to Mathias and Eva (Hoppe) Buettner. She married Joseph B. Weniger at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Lake Henry on January 30, 1945. They farmed near Bluffton and Millerville until moving to St. Cloud in 1967. Rita was a homemaker who also was a talented seamstress. She was a member of St. Peter's Parish, Christian Women, St. Barbara Mission Group, Legion of Mary, Whitney Senior Citizens, RSVP and Catholic Aid Association Council #42. Rita enjoyed quilting, gardening and volunteering at the Treasure Chest.
Rita is survived by her children, Janice Weniger (Rudy Froemming) of Underwood, Jacqueline Woods of Plantation, Florida, Joseph A. (Joanne) of Tucson, Arizona, Mary Flatten (Terry) of Mound, Renee Lilly (Pat) of Maple Grove, James (Mary) of Eagan; 14 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Thecla Gertken of Cold Spring, Leo Buettner of Cold Spring, Lidwina Herbert of Chicago, Illinois and Sylvester (Beatrice) Buettner of Bloomington.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph B. on November 3, 1992; brothers and sister, Norbert Buettner, Agatha Urlaub and Alphonse Buettner. Memorials are preferred.
