Del was born July 22, 1919, in Great Falls, to Sam and Angela Stanger. She graduated in 1938 from Great Falls High School and retired from a civil service position at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, after 34 years of service. She then moved to Flathead Lake, where she lived for five months of each year, and enjoyed the life of a snowbird for seven months of each year in Yuma, Ariz., and Las Vegas, for 24 years. Del loved playing softball. She was the pitcher on the Butcher's Local team in Great Falls. In 1937, the team was in the World/National Amateur Softball Tournament at Soldiers Field in Chicago. She often would talk about how the team sang songs all the way to Chicago. Del loved to sing and knew the words to hundreds of songs. She was named the Babe Didrikson of Montana for her excellence in sports. Del played softball on several teams in the 1940s, and in the 1950s she coached a slow-pitch softball team to the Montana women's state championship. Del also enjoyed bowling. She played on several teams throughout her life. She loved the outdoors, hiking, bicycling, fishing, playing bingo, dancing, singing and listening to music. Del would often say that "Life is an adventure, and I live life to the fullest!" She loved Glacier Park and often told the story of how she hiked from Trail of the Cedars to Avalanche Lake barefoot(!) on a moss-covered trail. Del was dedicated to her Catholic faith and very devoted to the Rosary.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents; her brothers, Evert, Gene, Larry and Dick; her sisters, Myrtle Howard and "Babe" Stanger; and her dear friend, Emma Boykin.
