Frank Joseph Shockman

(June 2, 1914 - May 31, 2008)

Frank Joseph Shockman
Frank Joseph Shockman peacefully went to sleep on May 31, 2008, surrounded by his wife and large loving family. He took his last breath shortly after Leona (Nomie), his wife of 69 years, finished singing to him their favorite song.

Frank was born in a little sod shanty on June 2, 1914, in Berlin, North Dakota to John and Leona Shockman. His childhood was spent working on the farm, playing music and baseball with his siblings and cousins. In 1934, he met Leona in Independence, Iowa while traveling with his parents in a Christian missionary assignment. Together they raised four children in Mankato, Minnesota, where he built his own house and started his own Auto Repair Shop on his property. He became known in the area for his kindness, honesty and mechanical expertise.

Throughout his life, Frank had a strong love of music and played both the violin and mandolin. From a very young age he was performing in front of crowds, playing old time fiddle music and eventually playing in several orchestras, including the Mankato Symphony. His love for music was shared with his wife Leona, his children, and eventually his grandchildren. Many an evening was spent playing or singing together as a family.

Frank also loved to travel and enjoyed working outdoors. Each year he would pack up his family and head out on a road trip to some new place they hadn't seen. Upon his return he would start saving for the next year's adventure. When he was home, you could always find him at the wood pile or shop bench: building, drilling or cutting.

Like his parents, Frank was also a minister. He loved to tell others the truths of the Bible. For his entire life, he spent time each week, showing others where they could find comforting truths in their own Bibles. He specifically enjoyed telling others about the resurrection hope, and God's purpose to restore the earth once again to a beautiful paradise. Frank remained active in the ministry, right up until his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Ivan Shockman.

He is survived by his loving wife, Leona; brother, Gerald (Jean) Shockman; sister, Norma (Ell) Bredlow; children, Linda (Jerry) Mackey, Jan (Jeanne) Shockman, Shawn (Paula) Shockman, and Lorna (Barry) Williams; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at the North Marysville Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 4400 136th St. NE Marysville, WA 98271. A reception will follow at the Opera House, 1225 3rd Street, Marysville WA 98270.
