Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 21, 2009 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Bernadette Schmitz, age 80, who died Friday at the Assumption Nursing Home. Burial will be in the St. Boniface Parish Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Sunday (TODAY) at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring and from 9:30 10:30 a.m. Monday morning in the Narthex of St. Boniface Church. Parish Prayers will be at 4:00 p.m. followed by a rosary with the Christian Women and the Catholic Order of Foresters on Sunday at the funeral home.
Bernadette was born in Freeport, MN to Bernard and Elizabeth (Buening) Ballman. She married Edwin Schmitz on September 23, 1947 in Freeport MN. Bernadette was a loving wife and mother. She was a member of St. Boniface Parish, Catholic Order of Foresters and the Christian Women.
Survivors include her children, Laurie Schmitz, Ed (Linda) Schmitz, Cindy Schmitz, Luci (Barry) Hample, Fran (Sue) Schmitz, Paul (Lisa) Schmitz, Pete Schmitz, Robert (Tina) Schmitz, Gabe (Lorraine) Schmitz, Grace (Mike) Ellens, Gordon (Penny) Schmitz, Rose Hansen, Tami (Steve) DeMark; 32 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, S. Davidica Ballman, OSB; brother, Bernard Ballman.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son, Allen; daughters, Helen and Bernadine; 4 sisters and 4 brothers.
