Gilbert H. Harren, 80, of Long Prairie, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 7 at Long Prairie Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10 at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Long Prairie. Burial will take place at St. Mary¹s Cemetery in Long Prairie with military honors by Long Prairie V.F.W. and American Legion posts. Family and friends may call Friday, Nov. 9 from 2:30-8 p.m. at the Stephan-Stein Funeral Home in Long Prairie. Rosary prayers will be at 3 p.m., followed by evening prayers at 7 p.m. with the 4th Degree K.C. Honor Guard.
Gilbert was born Nov. 20, 1920, in St. Francis, MN, to Bernard and Elizabeth (Rausch) Harren. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Italy during World War II. He married Virginia Schiller on June 29, 1946, at St. Francis Catholic Church, St. Francis. He was a manager for Gambles Hardware before moving to Long Prairie in 1965, where he owned and operated Gambles Hardware Store until 1975. He then worked at Hart Trailer Sales, managed the Long Prairie VFW Club, and sold real estate for Bill Lawin, Century 21, and East-West Realty. Gilbert was a member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Monsignor T. Leo Keaveny 4th Degree Assembly, St. Joseph¹s Knights of Columbus Council #1636, the Long Praire V.F.W. and American Legion posts.
Gilbert is survived by his children, Tom (Roylynn) Harren of San Antonio, TX, Terry Harren of Long Prairie, and Lynn (Mark) Geraets of Browerville, MN; and his 5 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia (on Dec. 17, 1979); brothers, John, Norbert, Wendelin, Raymond and Bernard; and sisters, Loretta Gerads, Martha Voss, Marie Breth, and Ida Gerads.
