Dorothy E. Nathe, age 84, of Bemidji, MN died Tuesday, July 14, 1998 at her home. Visitation was Sunday, July 19th at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji MN, with a prayer service Sunday evening at the funeral home. The funeral was held on Monday, July 20, 1998 at St. Philip's Catholic Church with Father James Lyons officiating. Burial was at St. Paul's Cemetery in Sauk Centre, MN.

Dorothy E. Carlson was born Aug., 4, 1913, in Gibbon, MN to Carl and Charlotte (Naegli) Carson. She was raised in Melrose, MN, graduated with an AA degree in teaching, and worked for her father in the newspaper publishing business, the Melrose Beacon. She met her future husband Norb, in nearby Sauk Centre, later followed him to Palmer, Alaska where they married. They helped pioneer the settling of the Matanuska Valley in the mid-30s in the then Territory of Alaska, and moved to Bemidji toward the end of WWII where they entered into a 25 year partnership with Edwin Nathe in Nathe Firestone, Tire and Hardware. Dorothy was a member of the "Hardee Girls," several bridge clubs, and avid gardener and a member of St. Anns Circle of St. Philip's Parish.

Dorothy is survived by 1 son, John, (Margaret) of Bigfork, MN, 1 daughter, Susan Barsness (Richard) of Broken Arrow, Okla.; 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Norb, 3 brothers, and 1 sister. Casket Bearers were David Fankhanel, Walter Fankhanel, John P. Nathe, Tom Sykora, Joe Welle, and Lloyd Lind. Memorial are preferred to St. Philips School Endowment Fund in Bemidji.
